DarusSalam Academy offers a comprehensive, six-year ‘Alimiyyah Program culminating in traditional ijāzāt (certifications) in the Islamic Sciences. The course is modeled on the Darse Nizāmī, the traditional Islamic higher studies curriculum employed throughout the Muslim world. The ‘Alimiyyah Program consists of an in-depth study of Islamic sciences, including Arabic, ‘Aqīdah (Islamic Belief), Tajwīd (Quranic Pronunciation), Fiqh (Islamic Law), Tafsīr (Quranic Commentary), Usūl al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Law), Usūl al-Hadīth (Principles of Hadith Sciences), and Hadith (Prophetic Traditions).
Classes of the ‘Alimiyyah Program are taught in English, with certain courses in the latter years being taught in Arabic. The program culminates in an intense year of studying the six canonical hadith collections (sihah sittah) and an additional two hadith collections of Imam Malik and Imam Tahawi. Successful completion of the program will result in traditional ijāzāt in the Islamic Sciences and an unbroken sanad (chain of narration) going back to Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم. Graduates of the program will be well qualified and equipped to serve the community by filling the posts of Imams, teachers, chaplains, writers, and researchers.
The program is structured keeping context in mind, ensuring that students know how to understand and apply their knowledge in the context of the time and place where they live. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, a strong emphasis is placed on tarbiyyah (spiritual and moral development), seeing that students remain committed to implementing and actualizing their knowledge in their lives.
DarusSalam Academy currently offers the first five years of the seven-year ‘alimiyyah program, accepting a new incoming class and advancing the existing classes each year.
There are currently over 60 full-time students enrolled in the ‘Alimiyyah Program.
